My

STORY

My parents' rich heritage and diverse talents have profoundly influenced my artistic journey, allowing me to cultivate a unique voice through visual art, my first language. The experiences stemming from my family's passion for art and my journey with undiagnosed learning disabilities have equipped me with resilience and a distinctive perspective, highlighted by the Matthew Effect. This phenomenon created a determination within me and showcases how my strengths in visual and auditory skills have become powerful tools for expression, opening pathways that may have otherwise been obscured by challenges in traditional academic settings. My story reflects the transformative power of creativity and the importance of recognizing and nurturing diverse abilities.

Being raised in a household celebrating creativity and art has undoubtedly shaped my identity and purpose. My parents' passion instilled a profound appreciation for the arts, allowing me to recognize the importance of authentically expressing my culture, community and perspective through my work. The commitment to developing my visual voice and establishing a professional art practice represents my most outstanding achievement, continuous growth, and self-exploration. This pursuit challenges me creatively and offers deep gratification, enabling me to connect with others and share my unique experiences, ultimately highlighting the transformative power of art in enriching lives and communities.

My early start in the music business as a recording engineer laid a solid foundation for a remarkable career marked by significant achievements within the industry. I have worked for major television and radio networks like CBS and NBC and managed my own entertainment company, showcasing my entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to supporting and elevating local talent. My unique experiences, including collaborating with renowned artists like Stevie Nicks and forging a personal connection with Ian Hill of Judas Priest, enriched my professional journey and intertwined my personal life with the essence of the heavy metal scene. This blend of artistic endeavour and personal milestones reflects a deep-rooted passion for music and its enduring impact on my life.

My dedication to sound engineering and work with prominent artists further solidified my foothold in the music industry, showcasing my expertise in a dynamic field. Transitioning to Spain and England, my entrepreneurial spirit shone through as I established a property management company and an antique emporium, diversifying my skills and interests. My keen focus on city management and personal safety, specifically for women and children, reflects a commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. Collaborating with authorities like the Birmingham City Council and the UK Home Office as a logistics and security specialist highlights my adaptability and leadership. Being awarded the International Business Woman of the Year underscores my accomplishments and influence in the music business and subsequent ventures.

Evolving into an artist fueled by my extensive experiences across various creative fields reflects a profound commitment to honouring my passion. Returning to school in 2012 to earn the degrees I previously missed is a testament to my determination and desire to fully immerse myself in my art practice. The Matriarch Series is a poignant tribute to my mother, stepmother, and mother-in-law; the installation embodies my sculptural skills and conveys deep emotional resonance and personal storytelling. The choice of materials and the thought-provoking symbolism in my work reveal an insightful exploration of loss, femininity, and resilience, solidifying my authentic purpose as an artist dedicated to expressing the complexities of the human experience of loss, grief and womanhood.

My innovative approach to using acrylic paint as a textile in fashion exemplifies a groundbreaking intersection of art and design, highlighted by my recognition with the SURFACE: Emerging Artist of New Mexico Award. This exploration redefines traditional painting boundaries and demonstrates my commitment to pushing creative limits. Transitioning into The Female Gaze Series, I tackle the complexities of gender representation informed by Laura Mulvey's theories, starkly critiquing the historical dominance of the male gaze in art and cinema. My work is a powerful commentary on the need for female narratives and protagonists, challenging societal norms and advocating for women's agency in storytelling. By merging art with advocacy, I contribute to an ongoing dialogue about diasporic issues, the need to express alternative narratives, and the challenge of ideas and structures that significantly impact a woman's world.

My experience as a studio assistant for Judy Chicago provided a unique opportunity to engage directly with a prominent figure in feminist art, enriching both my artistic perspective and practice. While pursuing a Bench Jewelry Certificate in New Mexico, I further expanded my skill set, complemented by my ongoing MFA studies at the Burren College of Art in Ireland. During my time in Ireland, I developed a cohesive body of work and gained valuable teaching experience, which enhanced my ability to communicate and deepen my understanding of how students engage with art. This period of growth also allowed me to forge critical connections with curators and art writers, fostering a sense of community that significantly expanded the audience and support for my work. These experiences have collectively amplified the impact of my practice within the broader art world.

My artistic practice at Buttercup Cottage Farm in Cill Chiaráin reflects my profound dedication to exploring the ecology of the Connemara landscape, blending artistic expression with environmental consciousness. In 2023, I founded the Connemara Creative Arts Centre, demonstrating my commitment to cultivating a vibrant arts community. Through innovative programs—including weekly workshops, creative art clubs, and outreach initiatives—I provide vital resources that benefit both youth and adults. The artist residency program, which invites local and international creatives to engage deeply with nature, fosters cultural exchange and encourages ecological and artistic development. This initiative not only enriches Connemara’s artistic landscape but also embodies my vision of art as a catalyst for community building and environmental stewardship.

In 2025, I launched the Connemara Canvas Immersive Painting Retreats—an inspiring opportunity for international artists to immerse themselves in the region’s breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture. Connemara offers the ideal backdrop for expressing passions through painting and fostering meaningful connections. Its lush greenery, rolling hills, and dramatic coastlines serve as endless sources of inspiration, allowing artists to capture the essence of this enchanting region on canvas. Sharing this experience deepens our appreciation for art and cultivates connections with like-minded individuals who cherish the beauty of nature and the joy of creative expression.
